  37.      Have you ever found yourself wondering why it took so long to locate a
  38. file on your system, or get to a certain drive so that you can see exactly
  39. what is on it?  It only takes a moment, maybe only a few seconds if you
  40. are lucky, but why should you have to waste that moment?  Over time, those
  41. moments add up to one long annoyance, and that is not why you have a
  42. computer.

  44.      DriveMan will enable you to recapture those moments, and many more,
  45. while at the same time providing you quick and convenient access to your
  46. storage devices, specific folders, and the tools you need to maintain and
  47. control those devices.

  322. 6. Using DriveMan

  326. - a. System Requirements -

  329.      DriveMan is not an application that will devour your system resources.
  330. If you would like to use DriveMan on your system, you should have a system
  331. with the following components:
  332.  
  333.         > Windows 95
  334.         > VGA/SVGA Display
  335.

  337. - b.  The DriveMan Icon -
  338. -------------------------
  339.  
  340.      The DriveMan icon (an image of a floppy disk and a hard disk) is located
  341. in the system tray, which is the small area on the right side of the
  342. taskbar where the time is displayed.  The DriveMan icon is the heart of
  343. DriveMan.  If you right-click on this icon, you a context menu will appear
  344. offering you a series of choices:
  345.  
  346.      The Storage Device Area
  347.      -----------------------
  348.      The first section of the context menu lists all of the storage devices
  349.      on your system, including:
  350.  
  351.          a) floppy disk drives
  352.          b) hard disk drives
  353.          c) removable hard disk drives
  354.          d) network disk drives
  355.          e) CD-ROM drives
  356.  
  357.      If you click on any of these devices, the Windows Explorer will be
  358.      opened with that device automatically receiving the focus.
  359.  
  360.      Open...
  361.      -------
  362.      If you select this command, you will be asked which drive or folder you
  363.      want to open.  After entering a suitable value (c:\, d:\zip, etc.) the
  364.      Windows Explorer will be opened with the drive or folder you entered
  365.      receiving the focus.
  366.  
  367.      If you want to open this drive or folder frequently, place a check-mark
  368.      beside the "Add To Quick Access List" field.  This will cause DriveMan
  369.      to add the drive/folder name you entered to the quick access list,
  370.      which is discussed below.
  371.  
  372.      Quick Access List
  373.      -----------------
  374.      The Quick Access List is designed to enable you to quickly access your
  375.      most commonly accessed folders.  You can place any drive/folder name
  376.      in the quick access list.
  377.  
  378.      If you select this command, a new context-menu will appear containing
  379.      the quick access list, and a "Clear" command.  While there is no
  380.      practical limit to the number of entries in the quick access list, it
  381.      can rapidly become clumsy and confusing if you add too many entries.
  382.  
  383.      AutoMaintenance...
  384.      ------------------
  385.      DriveMan can be set to automatically maintain the performace and
  386.      integrity of your storage devices.
  387.  
  388.      To enable this feature, select this menu entry and then place a
  389.      check-mark beside the "Enable Automatic Device Maintenance" field.
  390.      You must also set the interval (in days) that will be allowed to
  391.      elapse before each maintenance tool is launched.
  392.  
  393.      When a maintenance tool is launched, you will not be able to use
  394.      DriveMan until it has finished performing its assigned task.  DriveMan
  395.      will only activate one maintenance tool at a time; if there are more
  396.      tasks for perform, they will be attended to in sequence.
  397.  
  398.      Options...
  399.      ----------
  400.      DriveMan has been designed to match your needs, but since your needs
  401.      may change over time it has also been designed to be flexible.  There
  402.      are several options that can be customized:
  403.  
  404.          System Tray Quick Access Icons
  405.          ------------------------------
  406.          DriveMan allows you to place an icon in the system tray for the
  407.          moust commonly used tools required to maintain the performance and
  408.          integrity of your storage devices.  You can elect to place any of
  409.          six icons in your system tray (in addition to the main DriveMan
  410.          icon).  They are ScanDisk, Disk Defragmenter, DriveSpace,
  411.          Compression Agent, Backup, and Windows Explorer.  A single-click
  412.          on any of these icons will cause the tool associated with that icon
  413.          to open.
  414.          
  415.          Explorer Options
  416.          ----------------
  417.          There are two "views" supported by explorer.  The first (default)
  418.          view is the explorer view, which is the more complex of the two
  419.          views available.  It consists of a window divided into two sections,
  420.          with the left section representing the file-system as a whole, and
  421.          the right side representing a table-of-contents for the object
  422.          selected in the left section.
  423.  
  424.          The other view, known as the "My Computer" view, is easier for
  425.          novices to work with since it consists of only one section, and
  426.          does not attempt to represent the entire file-system as a whole.
  427.  
  428.          Free Space Monitoring
  429.          ---------------------
  430.          DriveMan can monitor the level of free space on all of your storage
  431.          devices.  To activate this feature place a check-mark beside the
  432.          "Enable Free Space Monitor" field, and set the "Min. Space Before
  433.          Warning" field to an appropriate value (in megabytes).  If you want
  434.          your floppy disks to be monitored as well (for those who have very
  435.          specialized floppy disk drives capable of mass storage) you should
  436.          place a check-mark beside the "Monitor Floppy Disks Too" option.

  438.          Set Tool Locations
  439.          ------------------
  440.          If you have trouble opening certain tools after installing DriveMan,
  441.          you must explicitly set the location of those tools using the
  442.          "Set Tool Locations" command button.  You can also use this command
  443.          to replace the default tools with tools of your own choosing.

  445.      Help Topics
  446.      -----------
  447.      This command will open the DriveMan help facility, which can answer
  448.      any questions you may have about DriveMan and how to use it.
  449.  
  450.      About DriveMan...
  451.      -----------------
  452.      This command will display information about DriveMan, such as how to
  453.      register and what version of the software you are using.
  454.  
  455.      Exit
  456.      ----
  457.      This command will cause DriveMan to terminate until you restart your
  458.      computer.
